EV ILVO

The Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries, and Food (ILVO) is an independent scientific research institute under the Flanders Government. EV ILVO (Own Capital of ILVO) was created within the Flanders Research Institute for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (ILVO). ILVO and EV ILVO are 2 separate legal entities, but operate in practice as 1 institute, with the same director and same address.
ILVO’s task is to generate knowledge to foster sustainability in the agriculture, fisheries and agri-food sectors. Starting from a strong anchor in Flanders, ILVO’s work extends throughout Belgium, Europe and beyond.

ILVO employs a multidisciplinary approach to conduct ground-breaking research to improve production methods, enhance product quality, ensure food safety, and improve the policy instruments at the foundation of sector development and rural policy. With a focus on sustainability, ILVO spearheads the advancement of digital agriculture through its dedicated research and innovation efforts.
At the heart of ILVO’s operations is a commitment to systems thinking, the integration of traditional knowledge with cutting-edge technologies, and a culture of co-creation. Guided by the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, ILVO strives to address the complex challenges facing the agri-food chain and rural environments. Through applied research endeavors, ILVO aims to provide practical solutions that enhance sustainability, optimize production processes, and promote responsible development in the agri-food sector. With integrity, objectivity, and a proactive approach, ILVO is dedicated to shaping a more sustainable future for agriculture and food production.
