Today marks the 10th anniversary of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science (IDWGS), a day dedicated to spotlighting the global movement for gender equality and the empowerment of women.
Achieving gender equality in science is a critical step toward building a brighter future for everyone. However, women and girls still face persistent obstacles and biases that prevent them from fully pursuing careers in science. To bridge the gender gap, we must work to challenge stereotypes, inspire young girls with strong role models, provide the necessary support to help women advance, and cultivate inclusive environments that prioritize diversity, inclusion, and fairness.
At FoodDataQuest, we’re honored to feature a message from Eleni Provopoulou of Netcompany based in Greece, who represents the many remarkable female scientists within our consortium. Eleni shares her perspective:
“As a female scientist, I believe that data-driven innovations have the potential to create a more sustainable and inclusive food system. Celebrating women in science means acknowledging our role in turning challenges into solutions that contribute to a better future.”
As we celebrate the achievements of women and girls in science, it’s essential that we continue to break down barriers and push for greater inclusivity in all fields. By supporting and empowering the next generation of female scientists, we take a step closer to a world where innovation knows no gender. Together, we can create an environment where everyone has the opportunity to contribute to shaping a more sustainable and equitable future.
