Empowering Trust and Transparency Through Data: FoodDataQuest at Synergy Days 2025

On 21 and 22 October 2025, FoodDataQuest joined innovators, researchers, and technology leaders in Rotterdam for Synergy Days 2025, an important event bringing together European digitalisation projects driving the transformation of agrifood systems. This year, FoodDataQuest co-organised two interactive workshops with OptiFish and DigiAgriFood, exploring how data, AI, and collaboration can strengthen trust, transparency, and sustainability from farm to fork, and sea to fork.

Both workshops encouraged participants to exchange ideas, share experiences, and co-create practical approaches to data governance, transparency, and consumer engagement. The FoodDataQuest booth also drew significant attention, with many visitors eager to learn more about the project’s use cases, discuss ongoing challenges, and explore new partnership opportunities.

Highlights

  • Workshop 1: From Farm2Fork to Sea2Fork – Empowering Consumers Through Data
This interactive session explored how AI, data visualisation, and digital storytelling can bridge the gap between complex food chain data and everyday consumer choices. Participants discovered how AI-powered tools can help communicate effectively with consumers, promote informed and responsible food decisions, and build greater trust in the food system.
  • Workshop 2: Trust & Trace – Data Governance for Transparent Food Chains
Co-organised by FoodDataQuest, DigiAgriFood, and OptiFish, this session focused on co-designing a data governance and monitoring framework for the agri-food and fisheries sectors. Discussions centred on fostering trust, transparency, and compliance, including alignment with the Digital Product Passport, while addressing cross-sector data challenges and governance structures. Participants worked collaboratively to answer key questions such as “What makes a governance model trustworthy?” and “What should be monitored?”, resulting in a shared vision for transparent and data-driven food systems.

Through these sessions, FoodDataQuest contributed to the ongoing dialogue on how data can be used more effectively across the agrifood sector. By helping to identify practical solutions and shared challenges, the project continues to advance its goal of developing a framework for responsible data sharing that supports transparency, collaboration, and sustainability throughout the food system.
