FoodDataQuest took part in a special session at the 39th EFFoST International Conference, held in Porto, Portugal. The session explored how data, artificial intelligence, and digital tools can drive sustainability, transparency, and trust across the food value chain.
The session was chaired by Lucian Miron (EFFoST) and Ákos Józwiak (Syreon Research Institute). It showcased how interoperability and data-sharing mechanisms, including European Data Spaces and intermediary service platforms, can foster collaboration and support smarter decision-making among food system actors.
During the session, the FoodDataQuest consortium presented several use cases demonstrating practical applications of data-driven innovation.
- Netcompany shared its experience with smart monitoring systems in hospital kitchens, highlighting their potential to reduce food waste and improve patient nutrition.
- ILVO presented a dual dashboard integrating farm-to-fork data, designed to empower retailers and consumers to make more sustainable food choices.
- The Syreon Research Institute discussed private data sharing in the food sector, focusing on key barriers such as trust, governance, and interoperability.
- EFFoST led an interactive workshop to co-design policy recommendations for responsible and coherent food data governance frameworks across Europe.
Participants were invited to reflect on how technological innovation can be aligned with ethical and social considerations, ensuring that data-driven progress supports transparency, sustainability, and consumer trust.
The session, held on 19 November, provided valuable insights into how data-driven approaches can accelerate the transition toward resilient and sustainable food systems.
